APA format? I have an assignment that I need to write in APA, except I usually use MLA. I have a citation guide, but I am confused on the format on the actual paper. How do I format the paper into the various sections (ie methods, procedures, results, etc) when I am writing a paper about research using various sources. Thanks.

Qwerty Q replied: "use"

How do I cite class handouts in APA format? I have some handouts that were given in class that I want to cite in a paper, but I don't know how to do it in APA format. Does anyone know how to cite class handouts? Thanks for your help.

RH replied: "If it is a copy of an article or chapter or something, treat it as that. Or if it takes a point from a published source, use that source. If it is an essay by the lecturer and it is unpublished, you could try the rule for unpublished manu . Author, P. (2008). Title of essay in italics. Unpublished manu . If it is notes or point summaries written by the lecturer and unpublished, then they are not recoverable data by the readers of your paper and need to be treated as a 'personal communication', like your own lecture notes, or an email, or telephone conversation. There is no entry in the reference list for personal communication, they are only referred to in the text similar to: ....confirmed in the lecture "Introduction to the Psychology of Ageing" (S. T. Chan, personal communication, 12 August, 2007)."

How do I cite an organization in APA format? I have a paper on diabetes due tomorrow. Its all written up and done, except for the citation, which needs to be in APA format. I used a quote from an organization's website in my paper. How would I site when using the quote as well as in the reference page? Thanks!

FIRDAUS replied: "Here's a link about APA citation formats, use the one that is most helpful and best fits the way the website is managed to you! Also, another way to cite quotations, especially popular phrases is to directly mention it in your paper without needing to use the APA reference formats."

How do you cite the results of a LexisNexis search in APA format? In my list of references, I would like to include my observation that a search for something within a certain amount of time produces no documents. Can this be done in APA format, or should I just include that tidbit in the text of the essay?

Bryan F replied: "I don't think you need to cite that your search did not produce any documents. You can mention that in your paper. For instance, you could probably say something like ...(using a topic I had before in history)... "One of the issues with this research is the age of the light and dark skinned african americans. Most of the people who lived during this period are dead or senile." or something to that affect. But the best thing to do would be to contact your professor because each professor wants something different, even though there is a standard MLA and APA or whatever format. But if I was to guess correctly, I would probably include it in the essay or make it into a footnote."

What are some tips to writing a paper in APA format? I am used to writing in MLA format but now I have to write one in APA style. Is it much different, besides the citations?

Saber replied: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apa_format"

Stalagmite replied: "No, it is not so very different. The biggest difference is citations as you say. There are some differences in the way you do headings and outlines as well. Check out the online style guides and compare. Good luck."

When doing references in APA format, do you need to hit ENTER at every second line and THEN tab? Is there an easy way to do APA references in Word without messing up formatting for the document? I know the first line needs to be indented to the left and all subsequent to the right; any way to format this without having to hit enter after each line and then tabbing by hand to get that space on subsequent lines? Thanks

Michael A replied: "No, I've learned from friends the enter technique. It is the only way....a pain in the butt though. Mike"

When doing APA format 6th edition, do you capitalize proper nouns in a title? For example, there is a book called Profiles of the President: Woodrow Wilson. When writing APA format, it says that you only capitalize the first word in the title. So do you capitalize the proper noun. In this example, it is Woodrow Wilson.

bradhurt2003 replied: "you always capitalize proper nouns"

Re-bay-bay replied: "Add the words "Computer soft-ware" in brackets after the title of the program. Example: Kaufmann, W.J., III, & Comins, N.F. (1998). Discovering the universe _indent here_ (version 4.1) [Computer software]. New York: Freeman It is hard to give the actual example on here...if you know the format for APA you should be ok...this at least gives you the idea. Also you can look here for more tips:"

How do I cite a single author in APA format? What is the appropriate way to cite one author continuously throughout a paper in APA format? What should the first citation look like and then all the citations after that? Thanks!

lcastor2003 replied: "To only site one author is easy. The easiest way to do that is whereever you have the information in your paper you can put it there or the other option is to use in the reference page."

kayla replied: "go to jserra.com go under academics, then library, scroll down and on the side youll see citation maker, theres many different options of format and that is one of them. works great!!!"

TAT replied: "The above answer is incorrect. You put the author's last name and the date of the book, or article in parenthesis. At the end of the article you have the references. (Smith, 2001)"
